Shop Local

July 2013 - Buy Local Campaign

The Comox Valley Chamber of Commerce recognizes that 'brick and mortar' business owners are frustrated with lack of support from shoppers.

The big problem facing local merchants is ‘showrooming’ –  which is when people use local stores as fitting rooms and then order items from online suppliers. This is a huge factor affecting the inevitable success (or failure) of many local business enterprises.

While an individual shopper may sometimes save a few dollars with an online purchase, we ask: What is the actual 'cost' of these savings, in terms of the economic sustainability of our communities?

Consumers: Help sustain local businesses. Make the 'disconnection' from on-line shopping.

Buy local. In person. Make a difference.
